I do not know whether this program will be of any interest to Spanish IF authors or players.

"TAB" is a free, offline, parser-based, downloadable program for making standalone text adventure or interactive fiction programs that run on Windows 32/64bit platform.

Based on similar programming language to 80's popular retrogaming creators like QUILL, PAW or DAAD.

Has extended new coding commands.
Supports sfx, graphics and video (.wmv)
GUI Editor to add data, test, and build games easily.
Easily create a standalone executable using the TAB Player.

Sound and music supported: mp3, ogg, wav, aiff, mod.
Graphics supported: jpg, gif, bmp, png.

The program was written using thinBASIC and is in English Language.

Is it possible to create a TAB game in Spanish? I don't know if anybody tried to do that yet.
There is a distinct possibility, though, as I added features to customise and configure internal English "words"; system messages and dialog boxes/requesters for different language translation purposes into the latest version.

Also, a TAB user has just sent me a short demo game demonstrating that it is entirely possible to make a game in French.

If there is somebody out there in this forum group who fancies the idea of creating a small Spanish game demo using it that would just be absolutely fantastic!

The TAB parser is quite powerful - but even a simple two word input style of game might be fun to make.

I am happy to be on hand to help with questions about using the program, answer any coding queries etc.

Ideally I would like to create a Spanish translation of the English "default.tab" database which is a sort of template or startup file for users when they begin to create a game...

This will simply mean converting the Vocabulary words and synonyms and the default system messages etc to their Spanish equivalents.

I might be able to do that with Google translate but as I am not really familiar with Spanish I may well need a little help in creating that to get the syntax right.

Users will still need to use the TAB conditions and actions language.

**UPDATE** I made a textfile of the English data that will need to be translated to Spanish for testing.
It is just a simple ASCII text file and can be viewed in your browser and copied or downloaded to read in eg: Notepad.

I'm grateful for any assistance in this regard so I can check the viability of creating a Spanish text adventure with it.

(Also hoping that a Spanish version of the "tutorial.tab" demo can be made eventually)

Hi,
Game author Ron Edwards recreated one of his old TRS-80 basic programs using "TAB". (a text adventure maker for Windows)
He specifically wanted to see if he could recreate it "as is" for nostalgia purposes - so, as such, it has not been expanded upon and does not take advantage of the full range of program features and extended parser facilities that are potentially available in the TAB program.

His game, "Xanadu", is a small text-only dungeon adventure with brief descriptions. It uses a very simple VERB NOUN format.
